Aggregate Bearing Work

The pieces shown here were concerned with exploring the aesthetic properties of 'unadorned' clay. Base clay bodies such as terracotta and porcelain were adapted through varying inclusions of granular (aggregate) materials. Some I made from other clay bodies, some were sourced from the refractory industry and others were gathered from naturally occurring sources. All pieces were made through pressing the prepared clay into wooden or plaster formers. Following firing, all pieces were cut, ground and polished.
